Editor’s note: Ugandan music icon Moses Nakintije Ssekibogo, popularly known as Mowzey Radio, passed away on February 1, 2018. He was one half of the dynamic Ugandan singing duo Radio and Weasel, and prior to his death he was one of the most well known Ugandan artistes on the continent. As part of activities to commemorate the second anniversary of his passing we shall feature stories, poems and performances reflecting the impact he had on a young generation of Ugandans.
I switch on my radio
The tunes played are so slow
My spirits are damp and low
Tempestuous emotions in me flow
My dream last night was horrible
Something must be wrong at Case hospital
“breaking news”
Warns the radio
It’s sad news about Moses Ssekibogo
Little did I know,
It’s Mowzey Radio
After a ten days protracted battle
He loses it all at a moment final
It is the way for us all we must go!
Only if he had avoided that brawl
Better even done away with the bottle
That undoer of men since time immemorial
That liquid…
The essence of trouble
Rest in Power Radio
Be strong Weasel
Rich buoy… you’re irreplaceable
